A new Unified Development Ordinance to help implement OneMooresville

Mooresville has begun a project to rewrite its Zoning Ordinance, guided by the OneMooresville Comprehensive Plan. The new ordinance, called the Mooresville Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), will be a user-friendly, modern set of regulations to guide development and land use within the Town of Mooresville and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.

A visual survey is now available for members of the community to share their preferences on questions of form and design of development related to the UDO rewrite.

The consultant continues work on the Code Assessment, after conducting a series video meetings during May and June with focus groups, county staff, the Planning Board, and elected officials. The Code Assessment involves a thorough evaluation of the current Zoning Ordinance and the policy direction in Town’s adopted plans. It will consist of a document that 1) identifies the key goals for the rewrite, 2) includes, for each goal, discussion and recommendations for the new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), and 3) lays out a proposed outline-level structure for the new UDO, with descriptions of the content in each section. Work on the Code Assessment is expected to continue through the summer.

There are many ways to learn about the UDO rewrite project and to provide your input.
